We had our fair share of Halloween fun!
We dressed up for the church carnival on Friday night.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse,
Peter Pan, and Ronaldinho (a professional soccer player from Brazil) . . .
We made our own homemade rootbeer and
joined some friends and went trick-or-treating Saturday night.
We had a list of families from the ward we could drive to
who would be home to pass out candy.
We had a spooky Halloween dinner of eyeballs, bugs, etc.
at our cool friends house
and made haunted houses.
The boys are currently getting all ready for bed now.
We promised them that we would turn on the fireplace tonight
and tell spooky stories.
They are excited to hear the Bloody Bones and Dirty Diapers story again . . .
Happy Halloween!

I Want the Fish to Live!
When we went to the Pumpkin Festival on Saturday,
they had a fishing pond.
When I heard fishing pond, I just pictured
the typical throw the string over the wall and pull back a candy or small prize.
But no.
It was a fishing pond
with fish.
Limit two.
The boys were so excited to give it a try.
Then he wanted to try it again by himself.
A few minutes later,
Kyler caught his first fish.
When he was asked,
he chose to keep it.
The worker lady proceeded to whack the fish on the head
to ensure its death.
Kyler was quite fascinated at the whacking
and really wanted to touch the fish's eyeballs.
I was a little disturbed.
She gave it a whack.
And Kacin yelled NO!
Too late.
The fish received its whackings.
We carried it to the table to bag.
Kacin was very upset.
He started saying
"I didn't want the fish to be whacked,
but dad just said we're keeping it and I didn't even want to."
As we walked back around the pond to leave the area,
he proceeded to yell
"I want the fish to live!
I want the fish to live!"
We decided to give Kacin's fish a proper burial
in the backyard.
And then Kyler and Eric ate Ky's fish.
they had a fishing pond.

When they asked him what he wanted to do with it,
he said throw it back. Then he wanted to try it again by himself.

I was a little disturbed.
While Eric and Kyler were taking care of that fish,
Kacin caught a second one all by himself.
He was so proud and excited
and caught up in the moment
and the lady thought he wanted to keep it, too.She gave it a whack.

Corn Maze and More
We wandered through a corn maze yesterday,
with Kyler happily leading the way
choosing left or right.Oftentimes to him,
left was right and right was left
and we were definitely walking in a loop,
but what difference did it make?
Until Kacin was starving
which led to whining which led to
Eric sneaking peeks at the map he was given
and guiding us through.
As I held Kacin's hand
and pulled him along
I tried to explain to him that a corn maze was really a metaphor for life,
wandering along, not always seeing our way, making a few wrong turns, but there are places along the way a little higher up that give us a greater perspective and we can stay together and use the map and with patience and effort we would make it out.
He explained to me
that he had to go to the bathroom
RIGHT NOW.And so we all learned
that you should never eat the corn that lines the paths of a corn maze.
We made it out
and enjoyed a few more fall festivities at the farm.
Hamster run . . .
Face painting . . .Fishing . . .
Hay ride and pumpkin blaster . . .

A Schedule
School started about a month ago
and the routine of daily life has fallen into place.
I love it.
I love schedules and routinues.I stay flexible of course, but it's nice to have a plan.
I thought I might document a typical day in the life of our little family. . .
5:30am Eric exercising, me sleeping, Kacin, like clock work, up to potty and hopefully back to bed
7:15am Family Scriptures and prayer
7:30am Eric to work, breakfast, ready for the day, chores8:40am Picture scripture story and practice memorizing Articles of Faith
8:45am Off to school--carpool for Kyler, drive or ride bikes to get Kacin to school
9:20am Kids at school, Eric working hard at the office, me at home watching TV and eating chocolates
HAHA. Just kidding. Me volunteering in classrooms, cleaning house, grocery shopping and errands, exercising, practicing piano, and working on various projects.
12:00pm Kacin done with school, lunch, homework, reading, playing, working
3:30pm Kyler home from school, snack and story from The Friend, homework, reading, playing, usually a TV show, making dinner
6:00pm Hopefully Eric is home, because we are all starved and ready to eat dinner
7:00ishpm Showers, ready for bed, reading, family song and prayer
8:00pm Kids asleep, Eric chilling or working on the computer or off playing basketball, Me walking, still at Young Women's activities, piano lessons, book club or some such thing, and sometimes we are even both home together at the same time

More Soccer
The rain was falling down
and the fields were pretty muddy,
and the game went on.
Kyler has gotten much better
at passing the ball and working with his team mates to score.
Kacin is awesome at staying with the action
and when the ball goes out,
he's always ready to throw the ball back in--
to himself.
We had to teach him that there is a rule
that you can't be the first one to touch the ball after you throw it in.
He didn't want to listen.
He thought it was a brilliant idea to drop the ball right over the line
and take off kicking it.
Beats trying to pass and getting intercepted.
As you scroll down,
you will notice Kyler the dancing goalie.
He was having way too much fun out there.

First Weekend in October
The first weekend in October means
General Conference and
new pajamas!
(the 4th year of our pajama tradition)
Last night,
the boys were jumping up and down
when it was time to put on their new
motorcycle pajamas.
They asked me to go change into mine, too
so we could all get cozy
The boys coloring and quietly building legos,
asking questions when something caught their attention.
Eric baked us zuchinni bread in between sessions and
we still went on our Sunday family walk.
Oh, and Kyler did my hair.
If anyone is looking for a stylist,
General Conference and

(the 4th year of our pajama tradition)
Last night,
the boys were jumping up and down
when it was time to put on their new
motorcycle pajamas.
They asked me to go change into mine, too
so we could all get cozy
on our big bed
and finish reading a Magic Tree House book before bedtime.
And then
we stayed comfy all day as we sat around
watching the two Sunday sessions.
And {miracle} we all stayed awake. The boys coloring and quietly building legos,
asking questions when something caught their attention.
Eric baked us zuchinni bread in between sessions and
we still went on our Sunday family walk.
Oh, and Kyler did my hair.
If anyone is looking for a stylist,
I highly recommend him.
Yesterday,
after watching conference,
we went to the boys second outdoor soccer game
of the season.
{enter a little bragging}
Last week,
each of our boys made a goal,
the only two points of the game!
Go Red Dragons!
